Important in Medicine because…

He began life as a military doctor, and then a researcher in University. In the 1880s he worked for Robert Koch in the Institute for Hygienic Studies, and also Ehrlich, both Nobel Prize winners. In 1901 he won the first ever Nobel Prize for Medicine for his production of an anti-toxin against the killer disease diptheria.
