The Fallen Old Boys of Keighley Boys Grammar School
in the Great War 1914-1918

JOSHUA  BURNS.

Lance-Corporal.    Army Service Corps.

Joshua Burns left School in July, 1901, after being- a scholar nearly four years. For some time he worked in the office of Messrs. George Hattersley & Son, but left there to assist his father, Mr. W. H. Burns, of East Parade, one of the best-known businessmen of the town.

Joshua Burns originally joined the Royal Army Medical Service, and was stationed at Portsmouth. Owing to an attack of pneumonia he was sent home, and continued to assist his father in business until called up for active service in November, 1915.

He then joined the Motor Transport Section and later left for active service in Italy. Whilst there he also acted as staff clerk to his company. He died on the 2nd November, 1918, through an attack of influenza. Mr. Burns was in his thirty-third year.

Joshua Burns will be remembered in Keighley by his happy disposition. His business of music dealer brought him prominently before the general public, and he was ever ready with a, joke. He took a keen delight in music, as do the other members of his familv.

We greatly regret his early death, especially so near the end of hostilities,  and extend our deepest sympathy to his parents, brothers, and sister in their loss.
