There was conflict on the Plains from the earliest days of the USA. Mainly the conflict was driven by hatred of the Indians, but also jealousy and suspicion between the white Americans who were settling down on the Plains also drove conflict and killing.
In the conflict for control of the Plains, the white Americans always had a huge advantage.
