Renaissance Public Health
During the Renaissance people saw the filth and daily hazards as part of everyday life. The Government certainly did not want to provide clean water, they saw it as been down to the individual.
As supernatural ideas about the cause of disease were still current there was no realisation that clean water would keep people healthy.
An increasing population, and growing towns as more people moved to towns to prosper this added pressure to what clean water and waste disposal there was.
Warfare in this period also brought health risks to the population. Armies spread disease as well as carrying ideas, and more war lead people to shelter within city walls, and houses were built very close to one another. The cost of conflict meant that public health projects were too expensive and unproductive.
